Information Technology Consulting
I work from my home in my own time as an IT consultant. I’m specifically interested in Linux systems administration consulting at this time, particularly in environments that are migrating into virtualized or cloud infrastructures.
Current and past engagements include:
- BookGlutton – pre-launch Symfony development
- Systems Administration for PMSI Marketing on Dell promotional websites
- Project Manager for Cabinfield Amish Furniture
- Application Developer for EHE Inc.
- Subversion consulting for TrialNet
- WordPress Development for Search Dog Network, Inc.
- WordPress Development for Square One
- Systems Administration for Java.net
- Systems Administration for CogniSync, Inc.
Unusual points of interest: I bill on a monthly retainer basis, which typically includes the amount of work I’m expected to do for the client that month — it acts as sort of a ‘salary’ that also covers any emergency or critical care that your site/servers may need without running up a huge bill.
I provide the following services to all of my clients:
- 24 hour monitoring and response
- Configuration Change Management (and the ability, in most cases, to roll back to previous configurations)
- Clear, non-technical explanations of what is happening and what needs to happen
- Recommendations based on 10 years of IT/web experience, including advance warning of capacity issues
Additionally, I can provide the following services at a low cost:
- Website or application hosting
- Off-site backups
While I used to be a PHP developer, I tend to shy away from active development these days. My interests have changed towards systems administration. However, the development I’ve done in the past has made me an excellent administrator of complicated PHP-based CMS installations, including high-traffic Drupal, WordPress, Symfony, Zend Framework, and other types of sites with a mind-boggling number of moving parts.
