Who’d a thunk it. B/CS as a hot area for tech startups? Nah, get real.
There’s a lot of dollars being bet to say you’re wrong. With Fibertown (which I keep misspelling “Fibretown” thanks to my predelection for British spellings), The Creative Space, Managed Network Solutions and others moving into the renovated, revitalized downtown area, it’s rapidly becoming so. You’ve got great restaurants, great office space, a fibre trunk running right down the middle of main street, good transportation from Houston, Austin, San Antonio and D/FW, it’s not in a flood plain, it’s not in a tornado-prone area like D/FW is, you don’t need to worry about hurricanes or flooding like you do in Houston/Galveston and San Antonio, and there aren’t as many smelly hippies or longhorns as there are in Austin… what’s not to like?
I can see a lot of companies in D/FW, Houston and NOLA putting their disaster recovery sites here… and the money that’s flowing into the renovations that are being made to downtown say I’m right. There’s a technical workforce already in place, the cost of living is ridiculously low, and the proximity of the university means that there’s always interesting things going on.
Now if I didn’t want seasons back at some point and could stand the allergies, I could see staying here!
That’s in part why they tried to make the tag “Research Valley” a part of our area. Didn’t work for the most part, but it still is a great place for start-ups and all kinds of research.
After years of living here I’ve become accustomed to the lack of seasons and Zyrtec! Hope you do too!!! It’s truly a great place to be.
