Changes in PHP 5.3

by karlkatzke on July 3rd, 2008

There’s enough changes in PHP 5.3 that they should probably have iterated a larger number … say php 5.5 or even bumping it to php6. They’re necessary changes, and bring in some long-needed tools like namespaces (and some that will cause some snobspurists to continue to pan the language, like goto), but christ, check out the update notes. Please note that there are still some incomplete tasks, some of which are major.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the release, and you’re planning on upgrading, you will really need to test first. If you don’t have a development server or environment set up in which you can test new features, now would be a good time to do so.
