LOL, after reading all (well most of this) and watching a video of the procedure on the net some where, I am prettty terrified.
My DR. only gave me one week off, and being an Admin Assistant, my job is basically talk to people all day long and I am not sure by the sounds of things that I will be better by then to go back to work let alone talk or eat anything!
I'm 20 and hoping that my recovery will be speedy and I will most definately be trying most things people have suggested, like the ice around the whole neck, I would never have thought of doing that! And eating ice cubes. I've just made a massive bowl of jelly because I'm hoping I will be able to down that.
I've been told by nearly everybody, that they make you eat toast!!!! Which sounds like its going to hurt :(
It's my first time in Hospital so I'm half looking forward to the experience, then again I'm not because of the drip and other such needles they stick in you.
But Private Health fund/ Private Hospital, I'm hoping they will make me as comfortable as possible.
My surgery is sceduled for around 9am tomorrow, so I cant eat or drink anything after midnight tonight, which I think would be much better then an afternoon surgery because I only miss out on breakfast which wont be as hard as lunch or anything like that.
When I get home on Friday, I will most likely try and post another message about how my surgery went.
P.S. I am going to ask if i can keep my tonsils. I was a video and they come out whole!! And look huge!
Cheers, C. x.
My surgery went really well. my Dr. came and saw me a few hours after surgery and said that there was no bleeding which was good. So unlike other people I have spoken to said that they spewed up blood, I did not.
When I woke up in recovery I was feeling fine, and I was still hyped up on the drugs so I was talking to random other patients around me stuff. When I got wheeled to my room, thats when my throat sorta started to hurt as the anesthetic wore off.
Let me tell you, if you dont pee after your surgery they put a cathidar in you. Once the nurse said that, I was like, okay I have to pee now lol. :)
The surgery only took about an hour and only a little bit longer for me to wake up. So I was back in my room around 10am.
For lunch they gave me a sandwich, icecream and jelly. I ate a bit of the sandwich but the triangles were all different ones, i ate the egg one and a bit of the beef and cheese then had all my icecream and jelly :). I drank lots of water, then dinner they sent me this lovely veal pasta dish with mash potato and pumpkin and like bean and carrots etc. In other circumstances, I would of eaten that all up but I tried to eat the veal and even tho it was tender it just didnt really work. But lucky they gave me icecream and jelly again.
My parents came and visited me that night to see how I was feeling and brought me more jelly. :)
I had a fairly restless sleep due to not wanting to move too much cuz of the drip in my hand, and the nurse having to come in every hour to check my heartheart and stuff. Sometimes I didnt notice her but other times I'd wake up but it wasnt that bad.
On Friday morning for breakfast I had ordered Weet-bix and stewed apples. This was a pretty good choice, I had all the weet-bix, mind you I did crush it all up until it went soggy, then the stewed apples as soft and went down easily.
I havent managed to talk much since I got home beause it hurts too much, but I have been taking all my meds. The hospital gave me panadol to take for the pain, then this other stuff for when the pain doesnt go away and makes you drowsey so I find its best to take at night before I go to sleep (I took it last night and had a really good sleep) and they also sent me home on antibiotics twice a day.
I've looked at my throat and it almost made me gag. Theres like two big holes on either side where my tonsils used to be and theres all this white stuff there and it just looks disgusting and feels horrible!! But the Dr. says thats normal what its supposed to look like.
Anyway, thats all I have to say for the moment.
Cheers, C. x.
How did your recovery go? I'll be getting my tonsils out soon along with my adenoids and a septoplasty to correct my sleep apnea. How did you do the few weeks after surgery? :)
