  • Supported programmers by developing test configurations and development areas for programmers to work in. Established best practices for PHP programmers to use in coding applications. Responsible for managing PHP web application deployments across load-balanced servers.
  • Implemented forward-looking management and reporting technologies (Nagios, JIRA, Nessus) to ensure compliance with Texas A&M System Policies and collect performance metrics.
  • Standardized and documented department practices, including selecting one linux distro (OpenSUsE), one authentication method (LDAP via Novell eDirectory) and central file storage locations on high-availability hardware. Centralized package repository to push updates to all servers at once after testing.
  • Administered several mission-critical MySQL database servers.
  • Implemented cable-management and developed and enforced policies for equipment in the departmental server room. Selected and purchased new servers, rack hardware, power management/auxiliary power equipment, networking hardware, KVM, load balancers, and networked storage equipment. Planned continued buildout of the server room and expanded racked hardware from 1 rack to 4 racks, with space, power, and cooling needs established or planned to allow for six more racks.
  • Achieved 99% uptime goal a month after starting by implementing better management, redundancy, and upgrade procedures. Prior to my start, uptime ranged from 60% to 80%.

  • Administered servers, upgraded servers and implemented load balancing for Aggieathletics.com, Texas A&M’s athletics portal.
